Notes:
1. This trip will cover around 4,850 mile. It, unlike any past tour that I can remember, is a Historical Journey as well as a Tour. It is a tour of your Imagination. Imagine it is the late 20's or early 30's, you are living in the Oklahoma dust bowl, about to starve, don’t know what you are going to do; you are desperate, you load your family and what few belongings you can tie onto the old Model A and take off for the unknown venture to California or to wherever the car will take you before it breaks down. Imagine, the year is 1849, you desire a better life than the dreary life you are living. The future seems pretty bleak, tied to a back breaking job that promises no future. Gold has been discovered (there is a rainbow in your sky) in California, you are young, just 25 years old. You load the wife and two kids into the Conestoga Wagon, hitch up the team and join the Wagon Train to what you hope will be a better life. Imagine, it is 1955, the 11 World War is over, America is back into producing consumer goods, you have just purchased that new 1955 Chevy and the first Chevy V-8, you are dying to put that baby on the road, California is your goal, and you are traveling Route 66. You don’t know what lies ahead except the government has build a road a few year earlier that will take you there. You travel though many towns, stay at a half dozen mom and pop motels, stop and eat at the local Drive In Oh, No, you have hit the desert at mid day, it is very hot and of course the car has no Air Conditioning. Imagine, the year is 2008, you are in a new state of the art motor coach, recliner seats, air conditioning, restroom equipped, cold drinks at your demand, 8 channels of music playing at your fingertips, movies and all, and you are traveling, portions of Historical Route 66.
2. This trip has been run previously by automobile to check out all the unique things that we could find. Route 66 Circle Arizona Oct.- Nov. 2008 was so to speak the maiden voyage for a motor coach tour. We guarantee you will see the west and many interesting historical relics. We do not claim to be perfect, and usually each tour that is run for the first time, “is tweaked” a bit before running it second time. However, the 2008 tour was so wonderful, there is no tweaking....it will be run in 2011 just as it was in 2008. Thus we do covet your suggestions and constructive criticism. Mary Jane and I will be there to serve you and to do our very best to make you comfortable at all times.
3. Those who join this tour are expected to be of the venturous type, who will bring with them, a Spirit of adventure, a passion to learn more of those who traveled Route 66 before us and enjoy the mystery of the journey. Those who like surprises, those who love American History and who relish reliving a small part of it. This trip was preplanned, driven by car and much effort was given to find The Unique and the Old in the Modern Day in which we Live. We hope this unusual historical trip will be a tour that is pleasantly remembered the rest of your life. We trust that you will come prepared to bond together, meet new friends, and purpose to be a positive and joyous member of the tour. Our 2008 tour did all of that and more.....we became friends for life
4. The weather was absolutely gorgeous when we made this trip during the dates planned. 50's at night and high 70's in the daytime. Dress Accordingly with layers, so that outer garments can be removed or added as to your comfort. Also that you can be comfortable as to your personal liking while aboard the motor coach.
5. Unlike other motor coaches, Overland Tours Coaches have personal headsets at each seat for Individual Entertainment as you prefer it, not as the company prefers it. Six to eight channels of music plus the featured DVD of the hour. Join in or tune out, the choice is yours. The first day we will be helping to educate our tourist with books, leaflets and DVD’s of Route 66.
