Gettysburg-Washington DC

Gettysburg, PA - Washington, DC

PATRIOT'S July 23 - 28 2012  PILGRIMAGE

This tour is both a comprehensive patriotic experience and an exciting vacation!  Join us as we tour Gettysburg and  the Monuments and Memorials of our nations Capital, especially the newest WWII Memorial; see the sights and discover the best of our Nation’s Capital.

DAY ONE: Today we will get acquainted with our fellow travelers as we enjoy the fellowship over the miles, traveling through the diverse beauty of Ohio and West Virginia,  to Gettysburg Pennsylvania before checking into our comfortable lodging near the Gettysburg Battlefields.  If time permits we will visit the New Visitors Center this evening which will allow us an earlier departure for DC after viewing the Battlefield on Tuesday.

DAY TWO: Tuesday morning we have a licensed Step-On Guide who will tour with us and view the sights of the New Visitor Center Museum and the Gettysburg Battlefields. After lunch we will make the 78 mile journey to our nations Capital.  Here we will be joined with our DC Step on Guide and some of the sites that we will view will be: The  US Capitol Building, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and the House & Senate Office Buildings.  We have requested a tour of the inside of the Capitol Building, which we will do if available.  Some touring will be drive-by commentary and some will be walking.  Access to buildings will be based upon availability. Next is a visit to Ford’s Theatre where the National Park Service Ranger will bring to life the story of Lincoln’s assassination and Booth’s escape.  We will see the Peterson House where Lincoln was carried to from the theater.  Lunch is on own at the Old Post Pavilion, before visiting the National Archives where one may view our nation’s founding documents.  The new International Spy Museum is our afternoon stop.  This eclectic collection of spyware and gadgets includes a replica of James Bond’s Astin Martin.  The included dinner tonight is at a popular historic downtown eatery, Old Ebbitts Grille.  After dining, a narrated stroll around the White House  will entertain us before we turn in for the evening.  (Note: in the event that availability is not permitted in some areas due to tightened security, some attractions will be drive by with picture opts.  This is a full day of sightseeing and we will attend as many of the above attractions as is possible.  High Volumes of Traffic and getting about the city in a timely manner could alter our plans for the day. )

DAY THREE: We have requested admission to the White House Tour, and will start our day with the tour, if available. We will visit the White House Visitor’s Center even if the tour is not available. Next stop will be the Smithsonian Museum of American History, followed by lunch on your own in the cafeteria. This afternoon will be filled with many Monuments and Memorials, including the newest Memorial to WWII, and including the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, the Lincoln, and other sites as time allows. Included dinner this evening will be either Phillips’s Flagship or H.I. Ribsters, depending upon availability.  Our evening will conclude with a visit to the Jefferson Memorial.

DAY FOUR: Today will have some sobering thoughts as we start with the Holocaust Museum. But let us learn from history, in order that it not be repeated!  Next, by Tourmobile, we shall tour Arlington Cemetery, an impressive sight, with its seemingly endless rows of simple white headstones, representing many who gave all for our country’s freedom. While there, pause at the Eternal Flame of the Kennedy Gravesite, see memorials to NASA crews, and witness the solemn Changing of the Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Journey up to the Custis-Lee Home, whose location at this exact spot in Arlington during the Civil War was the reason that the Cemetery began here. From here, you will see a fabulous view of DC. We will also view the Iwo Jima Memorial before departing this side of town. This afternoon, tour old town Alexandria and enjoy an included dinner in an historic Alexandria Tavern. Before returning to the hotel, a visit will be made to the FDR Memorial.

DAY FIVE: We will travel Mt. Vernon to View George Washington's Estate Home. We will conclude this day with either picking up a few venues that we have not gotten to see due to traffic or time constraints before we call it a day. All meals on this day are on your own..

DAY SIX: Today we travel home, with a renewed sense of American pride and patriotism for our country and those who have sacrificed to keep us free. All meals on this day are on your own....
